In contrast to Harry’s strength and protection through love, Voldemort’s inability to love is what weakens him and always makes him vulnerable.

Corinthians 13

"And though I have the gift of prophecy, and understand all mysteries and all knowledge, and though I have all faith, so that I could remove mountains, but have not love, I am nothing." (biblegateway)

This quote relates to Voldemort so well it is almost as if it was written about him. Voldemort believes his talent, his superiority and his intelligence make him the most powerful being.

He believes that not trusting others, having no friends and having no love in his life makes him more powerful and superior to Harry and the followers of the good.

He sees these things as a strength, and that Harry is weakened by believing in such things.

Maria Capobianco put it in the most simple terms by saying:

"Love will be what saves Harry and the absence of it will be Tom's demise" (Capobianco).

But, where does this all stem from?

Voldemort was conceived and born under a veil of falsity. His mother in order to seduce his father used a love potion. (Harry Potter Merope Gaunt wiki page). This lack of true love from the very beginning and his later abandonment by his parents make Voldemort unable to understand concepts like trust, relationships and love.

This ultimately leads to Voldemort’s demise. He does not see the power that love and the love for what is good can have. He does not factor this in to his plan and when Voldemort asks why Harry lives, Harry replies “because I have something worth living for” and that is goodness and love.

This lesson of the importance of love is important to Christianity in that it teaches the importance and value that trusting and loving can bring you. Love endures all. Ultimately if you trust and love your family and/or your God you can defeat all evils and get through anything.

“An act of hate will always harm the agent while an act of love preserves life.” (Deavel, 58)
