Images of love can be found within the Harry Potter series, most notably the love between Harry’s mother Lily and Harry himself. The love between the mother and son here is significant for it demonstrates the power love can have over evil.
Harry’s mother sacrificed her life in order to save her son. Her love conquered the evil Voldemort through sacrificial love. This sacrifice out of love continued to protect Harry for the next sixteen years allowing Harry to not only have the strength to combat evil, but gave him the knowledge of something so purely good like a mother’s love to protect him from evil.
In Corinthians 13 love is spoken about in such a way that reflects this profound power of love. It reads, “Love…thinks no evil; does not rejoice in iniquity, but rejoices in the truth; bears all things, hopes all things, endures all things.” (bibliegateway) The most powerful line of all of them is the last line that love endures all things.
Love endured death in the series, it endures numerous attacks on the good and in the end it is love that endures to the very end. Harry is able to defeat Voldemort because he knows love and he had something worth fighting for.
“An act of hate will always harm the agent while an act of love preserves life.” (Deavel, 58)
